Henny Koring , the founder of Koring Freight Forwarders, was born in 1933 in Kralingen. His parental home escaped destruction on May 14, 1940 because it was located several blocks beyond the tree and fire line. He experienced his youth in a fearful period, in the middle of a city strewn with rubble.
Study
After graduating from primary school, he was sent to one of the most prestigious schools in the Netherlands for a HBS study: Het Studiehuis Kranenburg in Dordrecht.
Ruys & Co
At Ruys & Co he started his career as the youngest clerk, a position that at the time involved various tasks such as fetching sandwiches and sharpening pencils. "Hey Koring, put my typewriter away!" - his services were often requested. At that time, people did not dare to ask whether there was something wrong with the claws of their colleagues. Moreover, he had to seriously focus on his studies, which included commercial correspondence in German, English and other relevant courses.
After successfully completing his studies, he was assigned to the United Humber Agencies department, where he represented the interests of the English shipping company Associated Humber Lines. This shipping company maintained a service between Hull and Rotterdam and vice versa.
As incoming cargo manager, Henny Koring worked closely with Dick Ladage, a colleague he had met at Ruys & Co. For almost 18 years, Henny Koring has shown his dedication in his work at Ruys & Co.
Leijs Ferry Services
In 1968, Sjaak Leijs was approached by Leijs Ferry Services to come on board as deputy director. His friend and colleague Dick Ladage followed two years later. The company started with three people, but by 1971, when Henny left, the workforce had grown to thirty, and there were offices in both Amsterdam and Antwerp.
Koring Freight Forwarders
Although Henny Koring was successful, it did not result in his own company. The push came from Coen Moulijn, Henny's neighbor. This is how Henny started Koring Freight Forwarders on November 1, 1971. What started as a temporary help from his wife Riet, extended to 22 years of loyal service. Dick Ladage followed Henny almost immediately. They started shipping between the Netherlands and Great Britain, quickly rented their own warehouse and soon became in-house forwarders for various companies. In 1973 they switched to trailers and became a depot holder for World Wide Leasing. Aad Kok, the current general manager, started as a document boy during that period. Martin Koring, the current director and owner, joined the company quickly after completing his studies. In 1997, the company moved to a new building in Barendrecht with 600 m2 of office space and a 2,000 m2 warehouse.
